Microbiology
Oftentimes our illnesses or injuries are caused or exacerbated by organisms such as bacteria or fungi that are microscopic, and difficult to detect or differentiate.

One method of testing for these bacteria or fungi is called a culture. When a culture is performed, a sample or swab from the region being tested is placed in a solution to allow present bacteria or fungi to feed and grow, which allows for them to be detected and identified.

Urine Culture

A urine culture test checks urine for bacteria and yeasts that may cause infections, such as urinary tract infections (UTI).

Toxicology
PFAS – “Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) are a large, complex group of synthetic chemicals that have been used in consumer products around the world since about the 1950s.”1

PFAS are used in a variety of common products like non-stick food packaging or cookware, stain-resistant carpets or clothing, or in fire-fighting foam. The most common way a person may be exposed to these chemicals is through the consumption of contaminated food or water. Because PFAS remain in the environment for extended and unknown periods of time, they can slowly build up in a person’s body over a long period of time. There is emerging evidence linking PFAS exposure to numerous health effects.

Luxor currently offers blood testing for the following PFAS:
  • Perfluorobutanesulfonic acid – PFBS
  • Perfluoroheptanoic acid – PFHpA
  • Perfluorohexanesulfonic acid – PFHxS
  • Perfluoronanoic acid – PFNA
  • Perfluorooctanesulfonic acid – PFOS
  • Perfluorooctanoic acid – PFOA
  • Perfluorodecanoic acid – PFDA
*Targets can be ordered individually or in combination

Vinyl Chloride
Vinyl Chloride is a chemical commonly used in the creation of various plastic products.

It is used to create PVC pipes, plastic kitchenware, vehicle upholstery, and more. Vinyl chloride can be found in environments around landfills or factories that produce vinyl products. It has also gained attention after the recent train derailment in East Palestine, Ohio earlier this year. Vinyl Chloride exposure can have various serious negative health effects.
