The prevalence of high-risk HPV genotypes, beyond genotypes 16 and 18, have greatly increased over the past few years because they are not associated with existing vaccines. Persistent infections with these additional high-risk genotypes (31, 33, and 51), are associated with cervical, vaginal, vulvar, and head and neck malignancies.
Extended genotyping enables risk stratification and persistence monitoring to reduce the risk that individuals progress to cervical cancer For this reason, Luxor was one of the first laboratories in the region to offer testing for additional high-risk HPV genotypes beyond genotypes 16 and 18. Extended genotyping enables risk stratification and persistence monitoring to reduce the risk that individuals progress to cervical cancer.
